Leaves

This past week I’ve had the honor of working with Ingrid Jensen and the William Paterson University Jazz Orchestra. The ensemble performed on March 31 at William Paterson’s ongoing Jazz Room concert series, then again the following night at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola in Manhattan. Ingrid was featured on a variety of old and new music from composers and arrangers including Thad Jones, Kenny Wheeler, Fred Sturm, and Christine Jensen. For my part, I conducted the premiere of my new arrangement of Ingrid’s own “Leaves,” a creative, open-ended treatment of the standard “Autumn Leaves.”

Overall, I’m incredibly proud of the work we did, and I hope other bands have the opportunity to play “Leaves” with Ingrid.

Thanks to some great friends at WP, I have (admittedly bootleg) recordings of my chart at both William Paterson and Dizzy’s Club. Once I get through all the audio processing and splicing and all that, I will be sure to share those here on my website.

One final PS: The WP Jazz Orchestra will perform “Leaves” once more this semester for my Master’s recital on April 26th (more info on the recital to come!), this time with yours truly covering Ingrid’s part. Wish me luck!
